About my Chicken Suya Recipe
Who doesn’t love Chicken? Better still, who doesn’t love a good Chicken Suya Recipe that you can make in the comfort of your home and not need to move an inch (except to buy the ingredients of course)?
This is a meat recipe common among Nigerians and most popular at outdoor stands in the evenings or served at bars and lounges just like Asun Goat chops and peppered stick meat.
However, you’ll notice it’s usually much pricier (about N1,000 naira and above) than the former delicacies mostly due to its size. Nevertheless, it’s a welcome addition to my evening weekend gallivanting explorations ? (stepped down with a chilled bottle of Orijin Root Beer).
So if you’re tired of spending all your money buying Chicken Suya outside, whether it’s the Wings you like or the Drumsticks, here’s my recipe for how to prepare it the homemade way in your little oven.
Ingredients
To join us in our quest, we’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1kg of Chicken Wings or Drumsticks
- Suya spice
- Salt
- 3 Seasoning cubes (whichever flavor works best for you).
- 3 spoons of Vegetable oil
- 1 medium Sliced onions
-
2 medium Sliced tomatoes
-
Cabbages (Thinly sliced)
-
Chopped lettuce

Follow this step by step instructions below:
Step 1: Cut the Chicken wings and Drumsticks or any other part of the Chicken you prefer to use and place in a bowl.
Step 2: Add salt to it, Seasoning cubes and Suya spice. Mix these condiments into the Drumsticks and Wings thoroughly.
Step 3: Now seal the bowl using Clingfilm ( a thin transparent plastic wrap that glues itself to surfaces and is used as a covering for food).
Once covered, leave to Marinade in a cool place like your fridge. The longer it is left to Marinade, the more tasty it will be so aim for about 5 hrs.
Step 4: While your Chicken is busy Marinading, prepare a small mixture of the Suya spice with vegetable oil in a separate bowl. Mix them thoroughly so that they’re bonded as one then set aside.
Step 5: Prepare your Oven by preheating it to 180C/360F. Next, line your Oven tray with aluminum foil, then place the Oven rack on it before laying your Chicken parts. Spread them out so they can grill evenly.
Step 6: Brush the Wings and Drumsticks with the Suya spice and vegetable oil you mixed earlier. Grill in your oven for 15 mins, take it out, turn it on to it’s other side and brush again. Shove it back into the Oven and grill for another 15 mins.
Step 7: Finally bring it out of the Oven and place it in a plate lined with Newspaper. Sprinkle some more Suya spice on it and serve with sliced onions and tomatoes.
And that’s the recipe for how you make homemade Chicken Suya using just an Oven.
